This May, the entire collection of six tenor ukuleles built by master luthiers and donated to Luthiers for a Cause in 2017, will be on display at the Mountain Acoustics show in Burnsville, North Carolina. Jay Lichty of Lichty Guitars, host of the show, built one of the six ukuleles. The luthiers who contributed their time and art to the project include Lichty; Steve Grimes; Beau Hannam; John S. Kinnard; Jake Maclay; and Joji Yoshida. Each instrument was built with the same woods from two legendary sources: The Tree for back and sides; and the Lucky Strike Redwood for soundboard. Each luthier donated their craftsmanship to build a unique tenor ukulele reflecting their own style and sound signature. Luthiers for a Cause organized the build and the auction of the instruments, which were sold as a set to a single collector in December, 2017. In total, the initiative raise more than $130,000 to support the work of Ukulele Kids Club and music therapy programs around the U.S. and the world.
